ABOUT THE ARTIST
Although I created art throughout my youth, and received more attention in this subject than any other, I did not begin to paint seriously until I was well established in a career of graphic design, in San Francisco. I had been flown to New York, on business, and having never been to this city, I treated myself to the Museum of Modern Art.
Monet’s Water Lilies had a room to themselves – several huge panels. When I saw them I was amazed. I sat on a bench in the center of the room, feeling awe, and delight. I sat there for some time experiencing the paintings profound beauty. And when I finally left, I knew that I was lighter, and more joyous then when I had arrived. As I continued through my day, the paintings remained with me, and I decided then, to learn to paint.
I began my formal art training in the Bay Area (San Francisco Academy of Art), and continued that education in Florence, Italy (Charles Cecil Atelier) and Encinitas, California (Watts Atelier). My work has been exhibited in both solo and group shows, as well as galleries in San Diego, CA and Phoenix, AZ. My work is on display in both private and public collections, including Saint Paul’s Cathedral (San Diego, CA), Pomegranate Restaurant (San Diego, CA) Laurel Restaurant (San Diego, CA), and Saint Francis of Assisi Cathedral (Ridgefield Park, New Jersey).
I consider my style Idealized Representational, and my intention is to uplift the viewer by creating, to the best of my ability, images that are grounded, fresh and joyous. The possibility that a painting could uplift ones spirit inspires me most.
